Cigarette butts and medicine cups
And other debris of our lives
In among the plants we put
Around our buildings.
We clean them up
But still they persist,
Cigarette butts and medicine cups.
Yet the plants persist in among
The debris of our lives
And the concrete and asphalt
Of our cities and towns, growing
In every crack they can find
Giving color to our lives
And always defeating
Cigarette butts and medicine cups.
So look around you now
And see the colors put there
For all people to enjoy,
Giving pleasure in spite of
Cigarette butts and medicine cups.
