I watched a party
On New Year’s Eve.
I saw the people
Drinking, dancing, having fun;
At peace for the moment
With the world
And with each other.
Oh Lord, that the peace
And happiness of this night
Could overflow
To the world
And that all people
Should find in each other
A brother and sister
Too precious to be destroyed.
So grant this, my prayer,
That in this new year, Lord,
True peace and brotherhood
Shall come to all your people.
